Finding Your Happy Place

DawnpicIn case you’re wondering, yes, in the picture you get a glimpse inside my happy place.

Where can you escape from everyday life and feel completely free and at ease? That could very well be your happy place. For me, that’s here at home in my music room, and the place where I create, consult and mentor. As you can see if it’s colorful I’m in.

The beauty of happiness is subjective. And in my opinion, it is also a state mind.

My happy place is made up of music and MARI®. It brings the ultimate in peace and joy. Even better, I’m able to share that joy in community facilitating MARI® workshops at the Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre.

Having a set of rainbow harps not only tickles me pink, sharing harp music, facilitating workshops and playing for myself and others allows a return to inner peace. At least that’s how I feel.

Taking a moment to be creative is a joyful experience. Becoming a MARI® practitioner is the best education I could give myself. For me personally, it has provided more joy and happiness than I ever could have imagined. Most recently, having a client call to book a session for herself and her daughter, as a gift for her daughter’s 21st birthday, let’s me know I’m on the right path. To hear a young lady of 21 say, “I loved it” is music to my ears.

Her mother, a graphic artist, is creator of the beautiful mandala you see in the photograph. I’m always amazed at what clients create during a session. I alway say, “…surprise yourself.” Well, this client certainly did.

Finding your happy place is pleasurable and freeing. It’s as if one becomes lost in the moment and time stands still. Having an emotional connection with nature is important too. I love spending time walking in the woods before a client visit.

“The secret to happiness is freedom… And the secret to freedom is courage.” ~ Thucydides

Over the years I’ve come to appreciate my happy place. And it started with a return to self finding inner peace.

If you’re looking for your happy place ask yourself,  “Am I free? Am I being me?”

Should you ever slip, or lose sight of your happy place, fear not. Instead, welcome a new and exciting journey before you.

What I know for sure, simplicity is key. Stay optimistic about the future.

Our hearts crave joy and happiness. Life will provide more than you could ever imagine. First, recognize and connect, and for some reconnect, to your happy place.

My workshops will start again in September 2017 @Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre. For more details visit:

Can Therapeutic Harp Music Inspire Creativity?

You bet.
HunterwasserAndreapic
Look at the image created by local artist Andrea.

The lesson was given by Jennifer Cairns, Director of the Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre. The inspiration came from studying the great work of Hundertwasser. The collection of work from the artists came together in late Spring.

I was invited to play for the artists on a brisk Monday morning. So, with my pink harp in hand, I sat around the table and played for everyone. They worked feverishly from the minute they picked up coloured pencils, markers and everything else made available. From lots of chatter to quiet in a matter of minutes, all the volunteers noticed a difference. The artists shared and expressed when sounds made them feel, happy, sad, sparkly and peaceful. I believe they enjoyed the experience and connecting with the harp music.

During my recent visit to the JCHAC in June, I happened upon their latest art exhibition. Looking back at me from across the gallery was Andrea’s completed image. I was overjoyed and thrilled to see the stunning results from her hard work and effort. Who would have thought I’d make it into the picture?

Congratulations to all the artists. It was a pleasure to be part of the experience too.

Be The Heart Of Change

Stevenson Gardens ~ Chester, Nova Scotia
Stevenson Gardens ~ Chester, Nova Scotia

Inner work and reflection is an ongoing process. To move through different stages in life, some more pleasant than others leaves room for more growth and personal development. Leadership from within and being your very best IS the heart of making positive change. Only then can we inspire others around us to take that same leap of faith.

To develop a purpose-filled identity will take time. More important, it’s essential to shine from the inside out while feeding your spirit with authentic heart connections.

Hit the pause button slow down a little and take the time to reflect. On a recent trip to the east coast, that’s exactly what I did. What I know for sure is the time away was worth it.

Is it time for you to be the heart of change?

From A Hallmark Card

A beautiful card with a simple message. Enjoy!

Love yourself.

Make peace with who you are
and where you are at this moment in time. Listen to your heart.

If you can't hear what it's saying in this noisy world,
make time for yourself. Enjoy your own company.
Let your mind wander among the stars.

Try. Take chances. Make mistakes.
Life can be messy and confusing, but it's also full of surprises.
The next rock in your path may be a stepping stone.

Be happy. When you don't have what you want,
want what you have. Make do.
That's a well-kept secret of contentment.

There aren't any shortcuts to tomorrow.
You have to make your own day.
To know where you're going is only part of it.
You need to know where you've been too.
And if you get lost, don't worry.
The people who love you will find you.
Count on it.

Life isn't days and years.
It's what you do with time
and with all the goodness and grace
that's inside of you.
Make a beautiful life...
The kind of life you deserve.
